The Gala Concert will feature three composers
to whom the orchestra owe a greal deal: the opening work was written especially
for this concert by the pianist and composer Adam
Swayne, a past member of MUWO. He will also take centre stage in a performance
of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Lecturer in Composition at the University
of Manchester, Kevin Malone has been
an ardent supporter of the orchestra thoughout the last decade, and we are delighted
to give his latest work for winds, Buffalo it's second performance. Ernest
Tomlinson's Suite of English Folk Dances has been the most often
performed work by MUWO over the years, and we are grateful to Ernest for all
he has done for us.
